Zeta Tau Alpha and Kappa Sigma Host Fish Fry

Updated: Mar 16, 2020

Zeta Tau Alpha and Kappa Sigma hosted a Fish Fry on Friday, March 6th, to raise funds for both of their philanthropies. Zeta Tau Alpha was raising funds for the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation. The Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation splits funds between scholarships, educational programming, leadership development, and breast cancer research and awareness. Zeta Tau Alpha’s fight against breast cancer is paired with Bright Pink, the NFL, and the American Cancer Society. The money raised by Kappa Sigma also goes towards their national philanthropy, which is the Military Heroes Campaign. The Military Heroes Campaign provides financial and organizational support to our nation’s veterans and their families with the goal to help them overcome the battles they fight every day.

The Fish Fry was hosted at the Kappa Sigma house. The tickets for the event were six dollars presale and eight dollars at the door. The event was all you can eat fish, macaroni and cheese, slaw, rolls, and desserts. There were also yard games for customers to play. Anyone that wanted to socialize and “have a good time” before or after they ate were welcome to do so. During the event, there was also a raffle with different prizes. The raffle tickets were a dollar for one ticket or 5 dollars for six tickets. T-shirt sails during the Fish Fry also helped to raise funds. Fish Fry t-shirts were available for presale and sold for sixteen dollars per shirt.

Before the Fish Fry, on Monday, March 2nd, Zeta Tau Alpha hosted a bake sale to raise more funds for their philanthropy. Zeta Tau Alpha sold cookies next to the St. Patrick's Day Celebration Snake Pits (between the library and the Puck). At the bake sale, the cost of two cookies was one dollar. Zeta Tau Alpha was able to raise nearly 200 dollars on cookie sales on Monday. Representatives of Zeta Tau Alpha stated that this was a good jump start for their fundraising.

Due to the closing of our campus the next philanthropy event has been cancelled.
