The Locker Room Provides Sports Bar Classics To Downtown Rolla

This last Wednesday I went to The Locker Room to take part in a time honored tradition: wing Wednesday. The deal, offering 45 cent boneless chicken wings or 75 cent traditional chicken wings, has been going on for years now and has become a staple at the bar. It’s just one of the weekly specials that often attract large crowds. On most Wednesdays the bar fills up with patrons enjoying lively conversation over cheap chicken wings and five dollar pitchers of beer.

Although the atmosphere is lively, the jukebox is often silent, holding the music ransom behind a TouchTunes paywall. Fortunately, when people are playing music, the bar becomes even more spirited, and the noise reaches a rowdy din.

Another part of the experience that can be disappointing is the inconsistency of wait times. Because of the crowds, the wait for food can sometimes get up to forty minutes. Luckily, if you’re in good company, the time flies by.

If you’re looking for other ways to pass the time, there are various bar games to play such as darts, ski ball, and pool. There are also many TV’s arranged around the room in a typical sports bar fashion, making The Locker Room a great place to catch a game over a cold drink.

The menu as well features many sports bar bar staples, although it is through the specials that The Locker Room truly shines. On Wednesdays the wings are cheap and tasty, coming in a variety of flavors at different spice levels.

For barbecue lovers, the honey barbecue sauce provides a mild sweet flavor while the classic. Other milder options are garlic parmesan and teriyaki. One step up the spice ladder are the Classic hot wings, whose vinegary spicy taste offers a little more of a kick. If you’re looking for something sweeter, the Asian Zing and Mango Habanero are both tasty options with a good amount of spice to balance out the flavor.

Finally, Sweet Fire, the hottest of The Locker Room’s wing sauce options, brings another level of spiciness to the table. Most people will find these spicy enough, however someone with a real taste for spicy food may be a little disappointed with the heat.

This last Wednesday, I opted for the cheaper boneless wings over the classic bone-in. Although the meat is slightly lower quality, it is well cooked and often covered in a healthy amount of sauce. The traditional bone-in wings are a bit on the small side, but still a great deal if you’re looking for a more authentic experience.

Other great deals throughout the week include 8oz burgers for $3.50 on Mondays, and 75 cent Taco Tuesdays.

Whether you’re looking to take place in a Rolla tradition or just get a beer at a local sports bar, The Locker Room has you covered.
