What did the fish say when he posted bail? “I’m off the hook!” If you’re craving some delicious fish fresh off the hook come on down to Zeta Tau Alpha and Kappa Sigma’s 14th Annual Fish Fry. Whether you are a lover of seafood, Catholic and cannot eat meat on Friday’s during Lent, or just want to support a great philanthropic cause, then this event is for you. This year’s fish fry is from 4PM to 8PM on Friday, March 9th at the Kappa Sigma Fraternity House (1701 White Columns Dr. Rolla, MO 65401) per tradition. Tickets are $7 at the door and are $4 for kids 12 and under. You can also purchase tickets beforehand for $5 at Havener from March 5th to March 8th anytime between 11AM-1PM.
All proceeds from this event will be divided among the national philanthropies of both Zeta Tau Alpha and Kappa Sigma. Zeta Tau Alpha’s national philanthropy is Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, so the goal of Zeta Tau Alpha’s philanthropy is to promote education and awareness for early detection and provide coping mechanisms for patients/survivors and families, as well as funding studies to continue the search for a potential cure. In contrast, Kappa Sigma’s national philanthropy is the Military Heroes Campaign, an equally important cause. The Military Heroes Campaign provides ongoing care for military veterans and their families. Since 2007, this campaign has effectively raised over $1,000,000 in aid for veterans. Zeta Tau Alpha and Kappa Sigma’s Annual Fish Fry has been successful in contributing to both of these causes, with last year’s total revenue for the Fish Fry coming in at a little over $3,500.
All the food this year will be prepared by Kappa Sigma’s own chef. The menu naturally includes fried fish and other staples of a classic fish fry like mac and cheese, bread rolls, coleslaw, and various desserts. For the standard price of a ticket, depending on age and when you buy it, includes all-you-can-eat food and dessert, but also dessert - extra emphasis on all-you-can-eat dessert. If you are not a fan of the food or you are just feeling extra lucky that day, raffle tickets will be sold at the door for purchase and you will have the chance to win a variety of prizes.
A lot of hard work and preparation has gone into this year’s fish fry so be sure to stop on by and eat to your heart’s desire. There is something for everyone there and you will be doing your part to support two great causes.
