A Slice of Pie: From the Ashes

On May 29th an oven fire broke out in the locally owned, small business A Slice of Pie. While no one was hurt and “no pies were burned” as the owners Ryan and Katherine Warnol posted to Facebook, the building obtained structural damage that caused the famous Route 66 business to temporarily close its doors. Yet, like a phoenix from the ashes, the company is using this setback to expand.

The Warnols purchased A Slice of Pie from the Hopsons who previously owned the business, but they were not new to the pie baking art. Ryan and Katherine ran A Slice of Pie for almost a year and had high hopes for expanding, the fire left the old building in turmoil and it would not have been able to reopen for over a year. That was too long to wait so the pie making duo purchased a new location on Bishop Ave, near Imo’s Pizza. The new place comes with a larger sitting area and kitchen, and also comes with promises of a familiar feel and expanded menu. “Due to the limited seating and size of its kitchen, there were some things we just weren’t going to be able to do at our old location. Our new kitchen will be much larger, and we will be able to serve more customers at once, so we are looking at several different ideas.” Ryan told the Phelps County Focus.

There is a lot of anticipation for the grand opening of the new location which has been set for some time in September. The Warnols have not stopped baking however, and if you need to get your sweet tooth on, you can always purchase pies from their website or even get them from certain retailers such as Kroger.
